SFUVET VET expert funded to share expertise in Melbourne

As part of the International Industry Leader's Fellowship program, funded and organised by the le International Specialised Skills Institute, and the Victorian Skills Authority, Mergim Jahiu was selected to undertake a two-week study mission to Melbourne, Victoria State, Australia.

From November 6 to 17, Mergim met with numerous vocational training stakeholders from the State of Victoria and delivered a series of lectures and webinars on how vocational education and training works in Switzerland. More specifically, he spoke on the involvement of the private sector in the various levels of the system. He was also given the opportunity to visit various training institutions and training companies to gain a better understanding of how they operate and the challenges encountered in collaboration between the public and private sectors. These visits included the Kangan’s Automotive Centre of Excellence, the Victorian Tunnelling Center as well as State agency Apprenticeship Victoria.

Following up on previous exchanges with the national branch of the Global Apprenticeship Network (see previous news: New partnerships in Australia and New Zealand), the Apprenticeships Employment Network (AEN) organised a day of meeting and visits to discuss and explore the role that the private sector could play for the future of Australia’s VET system. The visits included 2 private, non-for-profit Group Training Organizations – NECA Education and careers for training of electrical technologies and Apprenticeships Group Australia AGA offering Employment and Training Services.

As a result, future cooperation is being planned for 2024 with GAN Australia as well as the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology RMIT.
